IDMC Rebirth
Fifteen years of shows, tours and events is a long time, and over the years the lives of members of IDMC has changed and developed. Some got married, had children, got promoted into positions of greater responsibility at work and in their churches, all of which meant that their commitment to the choir had to change.
So over a period of 18 months, we lost some key members who had been with us for 3, 5 and 7 years. As with other choirs, we knew that the lineup must change over time, and as such, John began recruiting new members and completed the search in December 2010.
The Rebirth project was born. The aim of this project was to prepare the new singers with our core members, blend and form the new sound that will take us into the new year and the coming challenges and future of IDMC.
The project was to culminate in a live concert at the place where it all began, NTCG Brixton on March 27th 2011. Three months of intense preparation, a new musical director in the form of John’s eldest son Andre, a 20 song set which featured a combination material from previous IDMC albums and the new Soul Food album, when the night came, they were ready.
On the night, the atmosphere was charged with excitement. The full house enjoyed the disciplined vocalists trained to the highest standards by their experienced and charismatic choir leader, John Fisher.
The array of guest artists on the night, helped the evening to flow and provided the audience with the depth of variety that gospel music has in abundance. The night was a resounding success, and the Rebirth project successfully introduced the new lineup and reinforced IDMC’s place at the heart of British Gospel Music scene.
The future looks great for one of the UK’s longest running gospel acts, and we hope you wlll get the chance to see them live very soon somewhere near you.
